We at Kelly Services are proud to announce on seeking a highly skilled Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic/Welder, for a Direct Hire role in San Carlos! ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: - Performs repairs and maintenance on various rolling stock and stationary equipment to maximize safe and productive operations. Typical repairs include (but are not limited to): routine maintenance and repairing engines, chassis and body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, wheels and tires. - Road tests vehicles to ensure safety, troubleshoot problems and/or assess effectiveness of repairs. - Reads and interprets VCR-s (vehicle condition reports) and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and/or driver for clarification of problems. - Occasionally makes emergency road calls to make repairs on trucks that break down while on the road. - Pushes or pulls large tool box weighing up to 1,000 lbs. As needed. - Uses impact wrenches weighing from 15-50 lbs. - May carry parts and tools distances up to 50 yards. - Cleans parts and tools with chemical solvents. - Completes written repair orders to document repairs. - Inspects visually and/or listens for problems. Feels for unusual vibration or suspension and/or tire problems. - Reads reports, discusses, demonstrates, and completes forms as needed. - Drives service vehicle to location where SBR truck needs service. Performs repairs as described duties above. Requirements SKILL AND/OR ABILITY TO: - Perform repairs in an efficient, effective and timely manner. - Perform various types of welding, including stick and mg. - Use cutting torches and plasma cutters. - Able to read, comprehend and apply technical manuals, equipment operating instructions and preventative maintenance manuals from equipment manufacturers. - Communicate effectively, read, estimate, calculate, interpret, measure and document in writing. - Own set of basic tools as is standard for heavy duty diesel mechanics. - Obtain a class A or B commercial driver-s license within 240 days of employment. - Sustain a steady work pace over an entire work day. - Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; - Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. - Tolerate confined spaces for extended periods of time. EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE: Preferred: - ASE Certified. - Experience and knowledge of fabrication skills. - Working knowledge of Federal D.O.T. Out-of-Service Criteria including CHP B.I.T. Inspections and DOT compliance audits. Required: - High school diploma or GED. - Minimum five years- experience performing repairs and maintenance on heavy duty diesel tractors, heavy duty equipment, and stationary equipment. - Valid California driver-s license with excellent driving record.
