Annual Reviews (AR) is a nonprofit publisher dedicated to synthesizing and integrating knowledge for the progress of science and the benefit of society. Our top-ranked journals and highly cited reviews—written by some of the world’s foremost experts in their fields—promote innovation among researchers and advance scientific awareness among journalists, policy makers, business professionals, and others with an interest in the societal impact of research.   We are currently seeking a PT Temporary Production Specialist to support the Production Department through the following tasks, with an emphasis on attention to detail, consistency, and customer service.  Add, update, and maintain data in a central database; conduct mail-merge operations from that database; and prepare reports Coordinate the review and revision process for manuscripts Copyedit complex scientific literature reviews in Microsoft Word and/or BaKoMa/LaTeX, including copyediting of author-submitted figures Carefully verify and format references to ensure accuracy so that the sources cited (including journal articles, book chapters, government reports, working papers, and more) can be correctly indexed and discovered Communicate with authors about changes to their review articles Review and incorporate author changes, proofread final figures, and prepare articles for typesetting Proofread typeset complex scientific literature reviews and provide feedback in Adobe Acrobat Transfer author corrections onto typeset manuscripts and confirm corrections are made correctly by the compositor Approve final volume for online and (in some cases) print publication Communicate clearly, promptly, congenially, and tactfully Work effectively with Editorial Committees composed of scientists/academic faculty/researchers Develop solid working relationships with Production Editors, Illustration Editors, Production Editorial Associates, and Managing Editors Report project status to Managing Editors on a regular basis Perform administrative duties as needed and in conjunction with the Production Editorial Associates   Qualified candidates must have: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, excellent command of the English language, and the ability to communicate with diplomacy and tact A strong work ethic and solid organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines Ability to work 15-19 hours per week Experience copyediting and proofreading scholarly manuscripts with careful attention to detail and grammar Experience working with and communicating with academic faculty, preferably scientists or engineers Strong computer and Internet research skills Proficiency in the use of Windows and MS Office; advanced MS Word and Excel skills are pluses Experience using Adobe Acrobat and the Pivotal database to track author and article data, prepare reports, and copyedit and proofread articles at AR is plus Experience as a Production Editor is a plus Ability to use close vision, color vision, and adjust focus BA/BS degree in the sciences, English, or a related field strongly preferred   If you possess the above requirements, please submit your cover letter and resume by applying online at:   https://chu.tbe.taleo.net/chu01/ats/careers/requisition.jsp?org=ANNUALREVIEWS&cws=1&rid=114     When applying, please note that you saw the job posted on the NOVA Job Board. We are currently seeking a PT Temporary Copyediting Associate to:  Copyedit manuscripts as assigned by the Managing Editor. This includes correcting errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage; reducing wordiness; formatting references; fact-checking items online; query the author(s) if intended meaning is unclear; and applying Annual Reviews style as well as the style of the particular field/journal, all while maintaining scientific accuracy and the author’s voice. (Communicating with authors is not required.) All copyediting is done in Microsoft Word. Carefully check and edit references to ensure accuracy so items cited (including journal articles, book chapters, government reports, working papers, and more) can be correctly indexed and discovered.
