The Assistant Store Manager assists in the management of a retail store to achieve or exceed sales goals, provide excellent customer service, maintain a clean, safe and pleasant environment, and implement the agency’s mission. The Assistant Store Manager reports directly to the Store Manager. RESPONSIBILITIES Participate in opportunities for continued training and development Supervise the work of others including planning, assigning and scheduling work Ensure standards of productivity, safety and proper procedures of quality are followed within store Support training of new staff; may support performance feedback and hiring activities Ensure merchandise is presented in a neat and orderly fashion at all times with consideration to appearance, category, size and safety and according to written guidelines from corporate staff as well as verbal and written instructions of Store Team Leader and District Team Leader Work as cashier as required Deliver the highest levels of customer service possible in all areas of the store; address customer needs, handle and address customer complaints with focus on conflict resolution and prevention of problem escalation Opening and closing the store and all requirements of these activities.  Ensuring the proper security of the building, company assets and the safety of customers and employees. Carry a store key and have access to cash management and controls; handle all money and financial transactions according to published company guidelines Ensure a neat, clean and work environment at all times Work with corporate Loss Prevention and Safety to ensure company assets are protected at all times; participate in coaching and training activities that support this requirement Assist with management staffing needs at other Goodwill locations based on the needs of the business from time-to-time Performs other related duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent work experience One year management experience in a retail environment KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Solid verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills across a variety of mediums (in person, phone and electronic-based) Proficient mathematical skills Ability to work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse group of individuals from a variety of educational, social and economic backgrounds Respects and has knowledge of cultures, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientations and age groups other than one’s own, able to work effectively with all Follow and promote workplace quality and safety standards and a culture of safety Receptive to feedback, willing to learn and embrace continuous improvement Strive for high customer satisfaction, going out of the way to be helpful and pleasant Lead, manage, motivate and communicate with staff positively Ability to train, coach and develop staff Exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion Ability to work variety of shifts including day, evening and weekend PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Able to lift at minimum 35 lbs Able to stand on hard surfaces for an extended period of time When applying, please note that you saw the job posted on the NOVA Job Board.
