POSITION SUMMARY:

Receives, processes, and evaluates member loan requests via all delivery channels currently available (telephone, internet, fax and mail) in a telephone loan center environment. Serves as a source of information for loan decisions, membership eligibility and requirements, member inquiries and Credit Union products and services. Responsible for processing, follow up, and funding loans.  Provides the highest quality of service to our members attempting to maximize the number of service relationships the member has with the credit union.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receives member loan requests through all delivery channels (telephone, internet, fax and mail) in a telephone loan center environment. Processes, evaluates and  makes recommendations for decisions on loan requests using judgment and routing loans for decision to a Centralized Loan Officer with a recommendation as to the approval or denial of each loan for a final decision.
  • Responsible for communicating loan decisions to an applicant including the ability to discuss loan denials, loan alternatives and rate computation. If the loan is approved, the employee follows up with the member, coordinating the funding of the loan or cancellation of the loan within a specified time frame.
  • Responsible for follow up calls and communication with applicants, branch associates, dealers on Approved Not Funded loan queues and pending loan pipeline management for direct and indirect loans.
  • Cross-services members on various credit union products including ancillary products, other consumer loans, real estate loans, share accounts, certificates, investment services, SMCU Online services,  and other credit union services.
  • Provides assistance to new and existing members with regard to all Credit Union products and services.
  • Recommends alterations or revisions to department policies and procedures as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Consumer Lending Manager

Qualifications

Must have strong telephone communication skills, with the ability to effectively handle all member issues via this delivery channel.  Strong sales and service background, focus and capability required, with a minimum of two years in the lending area at a financial institution.  Experience should include Loan Process or Loan Officer and New Accounts Representative functions.  Some college background desirable (emphasis on business courses preferable).  Must have an understanding of  consumer loan analysis, underwriting and decision-making and broad knowledge of financial products and services.  Knowledge of credit fundamentals, organized and able to handle a high volume of work.  Strong analytical and cross-servicing skills a must.  Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.  Must demonstrate flexibility in taking advantage of internal and external training resources available.  Proficient use of a personal computer with Windows-based programs.
