We are looking for a Traffic Engineer to help us keep our City of Sunnyvale roads and streets safe. Under general direction, this position performs professional traffic engineering work in the planning, design, construction and operation of traffic control equipment and related facilities, therefore the knowledge of applicable design standards such as the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD) and Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) and other state and federal design guidelines is a must. Traffic Engineers/Transportation Engineers perform work in the areas of striping and signing plan designs; street light designs; the City's Safe Routes to School Program; coordinate traffic engineering issues with the City's Public Safety Department and Field Services Division; manage and conduct traffic impact studies; the City's traffic calming program; the City's transportation demand management program; level of service analysis for  signalized intersections and arterials using computer models like Synchro, Traffix and VISSIM, review traffic control and development plans including traffic impact analysis of the development plans, and performs other duties as assigned. Requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering and two years of experience performing relevant, professional level work in traffic, transportation or civil engineering plus a current registration as a Professional Civil or Traffic Engineer issued by the State of California.
