Job Description

Academy of Art University seeks a full-time Student Accessibility Representative that is passionate about serving and effectively supporting students with disabilities throughout their collegiate experience. This is an impactful and dynamic position that will enable candidates to work in an operational capacity, think of creative solutions and enhance the learning experience for students with disabilities. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate accommodations for onsite and online students with disabilities
    • Conduct intake appointments
    • Review documentation provided by students
    • Communicate with parents and diagnosing professionals as needed
    • Arrange accommodations such as accessible transportation, classrooms, facilities, campus housing assignments, extended time on exams, note taking services, accessible materials and text in a timely manner
    • Write accommodation letters
    • Demonstrate use of assistive technology to students as needed
    • Think critically about problems that arise, identify solutions and prioritize needs
  • Provide ongoing academic coaching as needed for study skills and time management
  • Guide students towards self-sufficiency and self-advocacy
  • Refer students to outside professionals as needed
  • Conduct seminars for students on subjects such as note taking, organization, collaboration/social skills and professional conduct
  • Seek professional development through local seminars, networks of others working with students in university settings or with people with disabilities
  • Keep records in database of actions and correspondences related to students
  • Maintain current knowledge of available assistive technology
  • Obtain accessible materials from publishers and convert text into alternative formats
  • Collaborate with other Academy departments and staff and faculty to provide information sessions, workshops and disability awareness



  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is highly preferred
  • Prior experience working with students and individuals with disabilities
  • Background knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related federal and local support services
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be a high achiever and demonstrate a commitment to success
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
