We are currently seeking a FT Production Editorial Associate in our Palo Alto office.  You will support a staff of Production Editors and Managing Editors by:


  • Assisting with preparation of materials for journals’ Editorial Committee meetings
  • Adding, updating, and maintaining data in a central database and doing mail-merge operations from that database as necessary
  • Preparing front and back matter for Annual Reviews journals
  • Transferring author corrections onto typeset manuscripts
  • Assisting with meeting logistics and routine administrative tasks
  • Reviewing printer proofs
  • Copyediting and proofreading complex scientific literature reviews, including verifying and formatting references, incorporating author changes, and reviewing figures for consistency with text
  • Developing solid working relationships with Production Editors and Managing Editors
  • Reporting project status to Managing Editors on a regular basis


This position offers a broad exposure to print and online publishing and is an opportunity to acquire hands-on editorial and production experience.


Qualified candidates must have:


  • Demonstrated excellent editing, proofreading, and writing skills
  • Experience working with and communicating with academic faculty, preferably scientists or engineers
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, excellent command of the English language, and the ability to communicate with diplomacy and tact
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A professional demeanor and the ability to develop and maintain long-term business relationships
  • A strong work ethic and solid organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • BA/BS degree in the Sciences, English, or a related field strongly preferred
  • Experience editing highly specialized scholarly or scientific documents is a plus
  • Proficiency in the use of Windows and MS Office; advanced MS Word and Excel skills are pluses
  • A background or interest in science and experience in a publishing or academic environment are preferred
