Job Description  

As a Principal Applications Engineer you will be a key team member responsible for the support of a diverse portfolio of optoelectronic semiconductor products targeting high speed optical applications (operating at 100Gbs and beyond).  The Principal Applications Engineer’s primary role is to engage with customers to help them understand how to incorporate cutting edge devices into their optical systems by understanding their applications and systems they are building. 

Duties include analysis of system tradeoffs, testing devices in new applications, designing and building custom hardware, and other activities. To accomplish these tasks, the Principal Applications Engineer will interact closely with Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Applications (domestic and international), Marketing, and other departments to analyze and resolve issues, as they relate to sample, pre-production and full production applications support of a product.  

This position works with local and offshore applications and sales teams with a strong focus on maximizing revenue.  A strong RF and Microwave test background and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with multiple engineering, marketing, and sales groups at different geographical locations worldwide are essential to the success of this position.   This individual should be a self-starter and be able to independently (or manage team resources) to solve customer’s technical problems. 

Responsibilities

  • Become an applications expert on latest cutting edge devices customers will use to build their 100Gbps-1Tbps systems.  You will be given a set of products to become an expert on and directly support in the market place.
  • Design and Build supporting hardware for MACOM optoelectronic products using RF, Microwave, Optical, Signal Integrity, skills such as evaluation systems, reference designs, applications boards.
  • Technical Evaluation of MACOM optoelectronic components
  • Interface with Multiple MACOM groups to bring best in class products to the market place.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent – Masters degree is a plus
  • More than 5 years of experience as an engineer in the semiconductor field
  • Knowledge of a wide range of RF/microwave and optical semiconductor products including
    amplifiers, modulator drivers and transimpedance amplifiers.
  • Experience in Testing of 32G-64G Transimpedance Amplifiers and Modulator Drivers a plus but not required.
  • Strong RF/microwave and optical test and measurement skills
  • Experience in the characterization of amplifiers, modulator drivers, TIA’s a plusAbility
    to analyze system design level tradeoffs for customers
  • Exceptional team and communication skills to interface with internal cross-functional teams
    and subcontractors
