Job Description

Annual Reviews (AR) is a nonprofit publisher dedicated to synthesizing and integrating knowledge for the progress of science and the benefit of society. Our top-ranked journals and highly cited reviews—written by some of the world’s foremost experts in their fields—promote innovation among researchers and advance scientific awareness among journalists, policy makers, business professionals, and others with an interest in the societal impact of research.


We are currently seeking a temporary HR Administrator who can work 30-37.5 hours per week remotely &/or in our Palo Alto office for a period of 5-6 months beginning in July or early August.  Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the recruiting and onboarding processes
  • Administering all benefit programs including health, FSAs, life/AD&D/STD & LTD and workers compensation
  • Responding to employee inquiries and providing exceptional customer service
  • Preparing and updating monthly reports
  • Reviewing employees’ benefit program reimbursement forms for accuracy and required documentation
  • Preparing employee change forms and ensuring approved forms are sent to payroll
  • Updating information in our HRIS and ATS and filing personnel records
  • Preparing termination paperwork and conducting exit interviews
  • Providing general HR administrative support
  • Handling all employee inquiries and issues with diplomacy and tact and managing sensitive and confidential information
  • Assisting with special projects and reporting needs


Qualified candidates must have:

  • 3+ years related HR experience including benefits administration, recruiting and HRIS management
  • 2+ years administrative support experience
  • A/B.S. in HR Management, I-O Psychology, or a similar field preferred and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of federal and California employment laws
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A pleasant and professional demeanor with excellent customer service skills
  • Previous experience using ADP Workforce and Taleo or a similar HRIS and ATS
  • Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
  • Ability to work well independently, demonstrate initiative and exhibit sound judgment
  • Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively handle sensitive situations with discretion and tact
  • Knowledge of workers compensation laws and claims process
  • Ability to work remotely as needed
  • Prior experience working with a multi-state employer preferred
  • PHR certification and prior employee relations experience a plus
