About the International Technology Team

The International Technology team is responsible for the architecture, engineering, implementation, support, and operations of international systems portfolio of Williams Sonoma brands like Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, West Elm, Mark & Graham & Rejuvenation in multiple channels like e-commerce, stores, franchises and wholesale.

We currently operate company-owned retail stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia and have franchise operated retail stores throughout the Middle East, Mexico, the Philippines, and South Korea. Wholesale partnerships in UK and Ireland support our UK based stores.

 

Overview of the Senior Software Engineer role:

As a Senior Software Engineer in the International Technology organization, you'll join a small team focused on the delivery of scalable, robust, well-tested components in support of our platforms and infrastructure, as well as participating in the design and testing of potential new tools and technologies. You'll work directly with our engineers and architects to understand real business challenges and needs and then apply your design and engineering skills to propose and create solutions with your colleagues.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with technical team lead and architects to solve problems by helping to craft technical designs and software
  • Help collaboration with multiple groups to strategize and prioritize next-generation platform initiatives, develop best practices, and see projects to completion
  • Facilitate problem diagnosis and resolution in technical and functional areas
  • Encourage change, especially in support of engineering best practices and developer satisfaction
  • Write high-quality code that is consistent with our standards, creating new standards as necessary
  • Demonstrate correctness with pragmatic automated tests
  • Review the work of other engineers in a collegial fashion to promote and improve quality and engineering practices
  • Develop strong working relationships with others across levels and functions
  • Be a model and mentor to other software engineers
  • Participate in, and potentially coordinate, Communities-of-Practice in those technologies in which you have an interest
  • Participate in continuous education programs to grow your skills both technically and in the Williams-Sonoma business domain
  • Serve as a member of an agile engineering team and participate in the team's workflow

 

Criteria

  • 5-7+ years of experience as a professional Software Engineer
  • 3-4 years of experience with Java and spring technologies
  • Experience building microservices a plus
  • Hands-on experience writing Java multi-threaded code, custom class loaders and good knowledge of Java Concurrency, Java Streams, JVM internals, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with JavaScript technologies building rich and engaging UI
  • React or Vue experience is a big plus
  • Experience with Streaming platforms, NoSQL Databases and caching technologies is a big plus
  • Working experience with Scala and functional programming is a big plus.
