About There With Care

There With Care is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a wide range of meaningful and fundamental services to families and children during the critical phase of a medical crisis. Families with a child who has a critical illness are referred by medical social workers from local hospitals. There With Care builds support around families through a community of people and a network of services. Each family’s services are individualized to ease their challenges of life’s day-to-day obligations with compassion and care. There With Care was founded in 2005 and has service locations in Colorado, California and the Middle Tennessee Region.

The Role

The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator for Family Support guides and assists Family Support Volunteers providing direct care to families and children facing critical illness. Additional leadership and support comes from the Volunteer Engagement Director, a Volunteer Engagement Coordinator for Groups and a Community Orientations and Training Coordinator.

Your Work Includes:

  • Facilitating Family Support Volunteers caring for families in existing and new ways that reflect There With Care’s core values; strategic plan goals and priorities; organizational policies, practices and procedures, and legal obligations.
  • Providing Family Support Volunteers with information, guidance and assistance to facilitate families and children facing critical illness, and volunteers and their family members sharing positive and meaningful experiences.
  • Coordinating support to Family Support Volunteers delivering Care Packages of groceries, essential items and more to families at hospitals, home-away-from-home locations and family residences. Includes reviewing and synchronizing information to provide team members with up-to-date and accurate information on the timing of Family Deliveries and the activities of Family Support Volunteers.
  • Interacting in-person and virtually with Family Support Volunteers with a high level of individualized attention and care.
  • Working collaboratively with the Programs Team to ensure that Family Support Volunteers are connected with families to complete Family Deliveries and provide other kinds of care.
  • Working collaboratively with employees in Operations to ensure that Family Support Volunteers can access the resources they need to complete assigned deliveries.
  • Transporting/supporting the transportation of items for Care Packages between the warehouse in Redwood City and the pantry in Family House, Mission Bay, San Francisco.
  • Providing Family Support Volunteers making deliveries from the Pantry in Family House with the additional information required to complete assigned deliveries.
  • Regularly reviewing and updating systems and processes for quality, accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that all required administrative tasks are completed within requested timeframes.
  • Attending meetings with There With Care staff and performing other duties on an as-needed basis.

 Qualities That Support Success in this Role:

  • 1+ years of experience in volunteer or community member coordination (paid or personal).
  • Passion for/experience with families and children facing critical illness or different service needs.
  • High level of comfort in forming and strengthening relationships with community members, especially individuals and families.
  • Outgoing, practices cultural humility, communicates well across cultures, and is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Very organized with strong project coordination skills.
  • Self-starter and enthusiastic learner who takes initiative to anticipate opportunities and challenges and has a problem-solving approach.
  • Tech savvy, proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and proactive in learning new software and platforms, including Salesforce and SignUp.com.
  • Comfort working in-person (with strict COVID-19 policies in place) and virtually.
  • Physical skills and ability to perform work that requires sitting, walking, bending, and lifting up to 35 pounds.

Compensation: This is a part-time, non-exempt position for 10 hours per week. Benefits include paid vacation and sick leave.

Hours of work: Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Locations: Redwood City (main office and warehouse) and San Francisco (satellite office and pantry).

Travel: Requires a reliable vehicle, valid Driver License and current vehicle insurance. Must be willing to travel for scheduled trainings, orientations and meetings. (Mileage over commute distance reimbursed).
