Job Description

Position Summary:

The Equipment Maintenance Manager is responsible for management of the Equipment Maintenance staff and contractors supporting cGMP manufacturing, storage and laboratory areas.  S/he must be able to communicate well with maintenance staff, business unit management and other contractors to maintain reliable equipment in a regulated pharmaceutical environment.


Equipment Maintenance Manager leads the equipment maintenance team in the planning, prioritization and execution of routine and non-routine maintenance activities. Must have the technical knowledge in diagnosis and repair of equipment and willingness to coach others.


The Role:


  • Lead the hiring, training, and performance reviews of the Equipment Maintenance staff.

  • Communication experience and interactions with regulatory auditors like the FDA, customers, and site / global cross functional employees.

  • Maintenance activities shall be completed and prioritized with consideration of all regulatory requirements (GMP, FDA and DEA) related to the manufacturer of Nutraceutical products, business needs, industrial safety and environmental regulations.

  • Excellent technical writing, problem solving, planning and diplomacy skills.

  • Authors new or updated SOPs, work orders, preventative maintenance tasks, change controls and deviations.

  • Computer entry, routine updates, data mining, report generation, and KPI experience required.

  • Train maintenance personnel in proper use of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) as required for performance of maintenance activities.

  • Review and approve completed PM tasks and work orders for completeness, timeliness and accuracy.

  • Experience working with purchasing, finance and procurement.

  • Coordinate selection, purchase and availability of all materials as required to perform work.

  • Support validation activities, engineering projects and other cross-functional teams programs.

  • Experience moving from a schedule-based maintenance approach to a predictive maintenance program preferred.

  • Produce a maintenance work schedule and a projected work schedule with a rolling 4 week scheduling horizon.

  • Provides regular management reports and updates to site leadership.

  • May be required to be on call 24/7 to provide telephone assistance as well as emergency response to the facility.

  • First shift primary work schedule with atypical off shift support  

  • Other duties may be assigned as required


The Candidate:   

Education or Equivalent:

•     Vocational/trade school with apprenticeship graduation and 10+ years’ experience or Bachelor’s Degree in engineering with 5+ years’ experience preferred.



  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

  • Five years of experience in a technical role preferred.

  • Two years experience in the supervision of day-to-day preventive and corrective maintenance preferred.

  • Two years of experience in a regulated environment.

  • Basic understanding of mechanical/electrical/computer/PLC systems

  • Purchasing experience  Maintenance planning experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills  Working knowledge of basic computer skills, internet, word processing and spreadsheet software

  • Project Management and Maintenance Management software experience is preferred.


Physical Requirements:


  • Must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and reading of written documents and use of computer monitor screen.

  • Must be able work in environments with temperatures ranging from –10 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit

  • Must be able to work in environments requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) necessary for exposure to fumes, dust, heat, mechanical and electrical safety hazards.

  • The noise level in most work environments is moderate with some areas operating at noise
