Job Description

We are currently recruiting a Senior Cost Accountant to be an integral member of the Finance team which directly supports the Operations team for the South San Francisco manufacturing facility. 


The Senior Cost Accountant will be instrumental in performing daily analysis and processing of manufacturing work orders, inventory tracking, and manufacturing variance analysis.

The Senior Cost Accountant will report to the Controller.


The Role

  • Manage Cost Accounting and Production Analysis function.

  • Prepare daily analysis of manufacturing variances.

  • Assist in analyzing and preparing inventory obsolescence reserves, working closely with quality to recommend inventory adjustments.

  • Support the finance team in establishing sound inventory policies, procedures, and financial systems to ensure the quality and integrity of inventories.

  • Coordinate physical inventories and help review cycle counts to ensure proper internal controls are followed.

  • Prepare and submit inventory reconciliations for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventories related to material variances.

  • Report on periodic variances and their causes.

  • Update bill of material standard costs.

  • Conduct ongoing process constraint analyses.

  • Calculate and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Conduct special cost studies for use in setting selling prices.

  • Direct cost audits and their interpretation that will assist management in directing and controlling operations.

  • Other duties as assigned.


The Candidate  

  • BS/BA in Finance or Accounting required

  • CMA and/or CPA preferred

  • 5+ years of general accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a SOX compliant company

  • Sound knowledge of US GAAP and cost accounting principles

  • Strong mathematical, accounting, finance, and analytical skills

  • Experience with SAP or JDE, Hyperion,  Warehouse Management System, Excel (especially pivot tables and VLOOKUP), Word, PowerPoint and Business Objects experience desired.
