We are looking for a Transportation Engineer to help us keep our City of Sunnyvale transportation network safe and efficient while planning for future growth. Under general direction, this position performs professional transportation engineering work in the transportation planning and traffic operations groups, therefore the knowledge of applicable industry manuals such as the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD) and Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Institute of Transportation Engineers Trip Generation Manual and other state and federal design guidelines is a must. Traffic Engineers may perform work in the areas of striping and signing plan designs; street light designs; the City's Safe Routes to School Program; coordinate traffic engineering issues with the City's Public Safety Department and Field Services Division; manage and conduct traffic impact studies, transportation operational studies, and warrant studies; the City's traffic calming program; the City's transportation demand management program; level of service analysis for intersections and arterials using computer models like Synchro, Traffix and Vistro; review traffic control and development plans including traffic impact analysis of land development project plans; apply for grant funds; respond to citizen concerns; and performs other duties as assigned.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering and two years of experience performing relevant, professional level work in traffic, transportation, or civil engineering.
