The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Pharmacy Technology, Foothill College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE: Under the direction of the Dean, Biological and Health Sciences, Workforce Education Division and Pharmacy Technology Program Director, instruct community college and/or dual enrollment pharmacy technology program courses to a diverse student population committed to student equity.


The Pharmacy Technology Department has expanded its offerings to include Entry and Advanced Level pharmacy career pathway programs. The instructor will be expected to teach classes in-person* on subject matter in the following areas: Pharmacology, Pharmacy Law (Federal and California), Dosage Calculations/Pharmacy Math, Inpatient Pharmacy, Ambulatory/Community Pharmacy, Pharmacy/Medical Terminology, Aseptic Technique/Sterile Compounding, Non-sterile Compounding, and Pharmacy Practice.


Duties and responsibilities include classroom, lab, and/or clinical teaching while ensuring program compliance with related laws and ASHP/ACPE accreditation standards.


Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, lesson plans, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor.


Secondary duties could include activities such as student recruitment, selection, and advising for the various PHT programs; act as liaison between the college and professional, clinical, educational organizations and community advisory groups; develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum in the subject matter of expertise in both the laboratory and lecture where appropriate. This should include the integration of computers for instructional purposes in both the laboratory and lecture where appropriate. Maintain program(s) requirements including the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program(s). Assist with ASHP/ACPE Accreditation and college related accreditation, program review, and evaluations. Coordinate and manage retail/outpatient and hospital externship assignments with the progression to act as liaison between the college and clinical facilities. Assist in the coordination of retail and hospital affiliates to maintain and establish contracts.


*All classes will be in-person and dependent on district COVID safety protocols.




• Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty, and staff.

• Any bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of professional pharmacy experience, OR any associate degree and six years of professional pharmacy experience, OR any associate degree, and an accredited Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT), and 4 years of professional pharmacy experience.

• Must possess state licensure/registration to practice as a pharmacist or pharmacy technician.

• If a pharmacy technician, possess and maintain national certification (CPhT)

• Must demonstrate expertise and current knowledge in the discipline.



• College-level instructional experience (lecture and lab) in Pharmacy/Pharmacy Technology course content.

• High School-level instructional experience.

• Experience teaching and working with individuals differing in age, gender, ethnicity, educational, and economic background.

• Experience delivering pedagogy adaptable to a variety of learning styles including an emphasis on interactive multimedia, internet resources, and hands-on lab experiences.

• Experience working in community/retail and hospital pharmacy setting or experience working in various pharmacy settings utilizing skills needed in a community and hospital pharmacy setting.

• Experience with sterile and non-sterile compounding techniques and equipment used in in sterile and non-sterile compounding of pharmaceutical products.

• Experience with various pharmacy automation/devices and software used in medication dispensing

• Experience working in aseptic conditions.

• Experience with externship/program coordination.

• Ability to encourage students to engage in their own learning and motivate them to develop critical thinking skills.

• Ability to change systems of teaching delivery to meet differing student needs and able to adapt to change easily.

• Ability to work closely and cooperatively with faculty, support staff, and as a member of a team of professionals.

• Demonstrate awareness of how pharmacy careers might be biased by socio-cultural norms and an ability to facilitate difficult conversations on the topic of cultural considerations in the classroom.

• Demonstrate knowledge with California Board of Pharmacy requirements pertaining to experiential learning (externship)

HIRING RANGE: $60,490.00 - $99,345.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
