The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a strong leader and experienced professional to effectively guide and oversee a talented, service-oriented team in the delivery of high quality recreation and community service programs. Under the administrative direction of the Director of Library and Community Services, the Superintendent will lead the Community Services Division and provide strategic oversight of five diverse work units: Youth and Teens, Sports and Aquatics, Arts and Marketing, Senior Programs and Youth and Family Resources. In addition, the position will serve as the staff liaison to both the Parks and Recreation Commission as well as the Arts Commission. As such, this position will require regular evening and occasional weekend work in support of programs. The ideal candidate will be a strategic-thinker and strong administrator with the ability to build effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners. As a combined Library and Community Services Department, the Department is committed to innovation, sustainability and collaboration as fundamental values of service delivery. The Superintendent of Community Services will be expected to model those values and to create a working environment that supports teamwork, accountability, and a commitment to the delivery of outstanding recreation programs and community services. Requires: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in recreation/leisure, arts administration, public administration, business administration or a related field, AND five years of experience that included the management of multiple recreation and community services programs, with a minimum of two years in a supervisory role over professional staff.
