The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Principal Accountant to plan, organize, and supervise day-to-day accounting functions and take a lead for the completion of the City's internal and external financial reporting. The Department of Finance is responsible for the overall financial management of the City. The Department's core function is to maintain a strong, secure financial position for the City by providing a wide variety of financial and analytical services to Council, City staff, and the Public. The Department of Finance is organized into five divisions: Accounting, Budget, Purchasing, Financial Management, and Utilities. The Accounting Division is primarily responsible for accounting and financial reporting, accounts payable and payroll services, cash management, and investment and treasury services. Under supervision of Finance Manager, the Principal Accountant oversees the completion of accounting month-end and year end close process, leads the coordination of the City financial year end audit, and directs preparation of annual regulatory reports. An ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge and experience of preparing financial reports in compliance with Governmental GAAP and implementing GASB reporting standards, will pay attention to details, and will be able to communicate effectively. Candidates are required to have specialized expertise in governmental general ledger accounting, internal financial controls, and financial management which is applied to the development and completion of the City's financial statements and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), as well as the administration of large, complex or diverse City projects.
