General Ledger Accountant




DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: (as appropriate to health center level and scope of services)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Using NetSuite ERP system; gather, prepare, analyze and summarize general ledger data on an accrual basis to ensure accurate computer financial statements.
  • Responsible for preparing monthly payroll journal entries including but not limited to monthly accruals, and necessary adjusting entries and submitting to the General Ledger section of the Accounting Department in a timely manner to ensure accurate monthly financial statements.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet, income and expense accounts to the general ledger on a monthly basis.
  • Meet reporting requirements of external government and non-government agencies, as well as internal management to assist in making timely and effective decisions.
  • Assist in preparing reports and providing accounting-related information and analysis to departmental managers, management team, and various external bodies.
  • Prepare schedules and provide support for various financial and tax audits.
  • Meet established deadlines for compiling data for financial transactions and reports.
  • Research any significant variances and take follow up action when necessary.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Finance Management Staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. A typical means of acquiring those abilities would be:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Accounting or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience at the accountant-level. Non-profit experience a plus.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Audit Standards, U.S. Office of Management and Budget Circular A-133, and the pronouncements of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with PPMM staff, funding sources and the general public.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and exercise sound judgment without supervision.
  • Thorough knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing applications, such as Excel and Word as well as various accounting software applications.
  • Work independently and to plan and organize work effectively.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Organizational and decision making skills with ability to meet deadlines and to set priorities.
