Job Description

Note: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in in assisting with supervising youth groups in elementary, middle school and high school programs.  Currently there are vacancies in our Extreme–Zone Kids Learning Afterschool and Fun on the Run programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Lead recreation activities including arts and crafts, sports and games planned by the Sr. Program Assistant
  • Supervise participants and volunteers during programming hours and activities;
  • Assist with taking attendance and assist with record-keeping;
  • Issue, maintain and store equipment and supplies;
  • Interact and communicate effectively with children, parents, caregivers, volunteers and City staff;
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants and volunteers;
  • Responsible for staff supervision in the absence of the Site Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum age: 18 years old
  • One (1) year or one (1) summer of paid or volunteer experience with youth or recreation programs is required
  • Applicants are asked to list all paid or volunteer experience on the supplemental application
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification during paid training
  • Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license and a safe driving record

LICENSE/CERTIFICATES
Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license and a safe driving record, or the ability to provide alternate transportation which is approved by the appointing authority.
