Job Description

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in assisting with supervising youth groups in elementary, middle school and high school programs.  Currently there are vacancies in our Extreme–Zone, Fun on the Run, Kids Learning After School programs and various teen special event programs.


 Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with supervising a group of youth in after school programs, holiday camps and special events (openings for elementary, middle school and high school programs);
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and leading recreation activities including arts and crafts, sports and games;
  • Be flexible and able to respond to change;
  • Take attendance and assist with record-keeping;
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment;
  • Attend staff meetings and program planning dates;
  • Issue, maintain and store equipment and supplies;
  • Interact with children, parents, caregivers, volunteers, School District and City staff;
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum age: 16 years old (Students under 18 must obtain a Student Work Permit prior to employment);
  • Paid or volunteer experience with youth or recreation programs is desirable;
  • Must be available to work varying hours Monday through Friday between 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license and a safe driving record, or the ability to provide alternate transportation which is approved by the appointing authority.
